I got this for a Ryzen 3900X build because the factory prism ghost with the background noise was really annoying. I went from 55dB next to my computer case in daily use (just surfing, email chatting) to 42dB! In addition to the reduced background noise, the fan noise is less "shrill", i.e. also under load when the fans are turned up, it is more compatible with other fans in the case, i.e. less disturbing in terms of pitch; and the noise development at full load is also significantly lower. The primary goal here was to reduce the noise level and I succeeded! As an additional advantage, the temperatures dropped by about 8 degrees from 72 °C to 64 °C under longer full load (Linux 5.6 kernel version with all integrated functions, 24 threads compiling). None of these temperatures were too bad for this chip, and none of them would cause thermal throttling, but an 8 degree improvement is still good because I can run other fans at lower (quieter!) speeds. It's also about 5 degrees colder at idle (34-35C vs 40C), but measuring radiator temp from idle temp is a useless measurement. As for the installation. It's a big chunky cooler so I know other people will have the same questions I did. Is it suitable for the X configuration? So I will post my configuration and give some details. It doesn't seem to be interfering with the ASUS B-450F's top graphics card slot or top PCI-E 1x slot, but it hangs over my RAM. I have 64GB (4 sticks) of Crucial Ballistix DDR4-3200 (BL2K16G32C16U4B) memory, so that's enough for those looking for this info. Also, it barely fits in my Corsair Carbide 200R case. I think the "spoiler" (that stupid plastic thing on top that sits flush with the tops of the fans) might be touching the side panel of my case, but the case still closes snugly without effort, so maybe it's not that touching. . So I warn anyone with a 200R, that's the cooler to use, not the slightly larger Noctua (according to their specs the Noctua is 2mm larger). What bothered me and why I bought this and not this one. Installation was fairly easy, instructions were well written, well drawn and easy to follow. Everything you need for installation was included in the box, including plenty of thermal paste (more than enough for one application), a wipe to remove old thermal paste, and an application card (which you can choose or not). do). It was also nice that the bolts included tension springs to prevent over-tightening (if you're really determined you can probably over-tighten it, so don't be a crowd here). The mounting hardware seemed to be quite well made and everything just snapped together without fiddling with anything. One thing I want to mention is the large throttle that can prevent you from easily reaching the fan heads so I would connect all fans BEFORE you install them (not mentioned in the guide but you should know). While it doesn't overhang my fan headers, it does reduce the clearance significantly due to the different placement of the fans in my case and where they are on my board. The included #2 long magnetic screwdriver was a nice touch I suppose. Many people don't have one long enough to reach between their ribs and tighten those bolts. So good for her. This wouldn't be the first screwdriver I'd reach for, but for a giveaway it's pretty good.
