Review on High-Performance Metra 99-6505 Dash Kit for Chry/Dodge/Jeep 1998 and Up Models with Convenient Pocket Feature by Charles Chambers

Fits 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Due to installation issues I have tried all three Metra kits and the Scosche kit which was designed for use with my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Hopefully my review will help others to spend 400% more on installation kits and Metra will actually provide more useful information to help users choose the best kit for them. First, at least for the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokees: 1) The Metra 99-6503 Fit Kit is really bad and should be avoided. The one I got just doesn't fit the Jeep's rounded rectangular bezel hole. 2) The Scosche kit didn't fit well either. it did fit into the bezel, but was too tight in places and very uneven. Not recommended.3). Both the Metra 6504 and 6505 fit perfectly in the Jeep frame, but you'll need to determine if your stereo needs to be DIN mounted or if it needs its own frame (like the Clarion NZ503 stereo I installed with fold-down GPS Screen). If any of these apply, you should use Kit 6505. Kit 6504 should only be used for ISO mounts and when the radio does not require its own bezel. My bugle could be mounted to ISO standard but the 6504 kit's tight hole interfered with the fold down screen. As others have noted, the 6504's mounting position is deep and when flush mounting a stereo, using the 6504 kit will cause the bezel to drop.

Pros
  • Brilliantly made
