Lexar released two SSDs in late 2018. (SSD = Solid State Drive) A Solid State Drive is a "hard disk drive" that does not use platters or platters. It effectively uses "memory" to store your data (except unlike memory, an SSD doesn't forget everything once the power goes out), and the reasons for that are incredibly fast speeds compared to an HDD. and no moving parts and far fewer sources of error. The downside has been – so far – the cost. SSDs were very expensive when they first came out. So manufacturers built in a small SSD drive (64-120GB) for installing Windows and basic programs, and then used a regular hard drive for everything else. This resulted in your computer booting up very quickly (seconds!) and booting the operating system and core programs very quickly, while hopefully storing less-used data on your computer's larger and slower D: drive. Now prices have fallen significantly. based on SSD technology, and Lexar releases two SSDs, the NS100 and NS200. At first glance they are almost identical. One is gray and the other black and both claim VERY SAME speed, but the NS100 costs a lot less. So why would you overpay for the NS200? Well, there are a few details that they don't make a fuss about, but that might be important to you. The NS200 is advertised as a "gaming SSD". This is because it squeezes a bit more performance out of the tech on the read side, but writing is really the bottleneck on these drives and the NS200 seems to write much faster than the NS100. Ultimately, both are pretty fast. And for most people, the NS100 is a great way to speed up your computer. But the price difference to the NS200 isn't huge and personally I would grab the NS200 if you can afford it. But the NS100 still offers good performance - especially compared to a standard hard drive - at a great price and can easily breathe new life into an old machine. And heck, they're cheap. After all, Lexar is a great company with a good reputation, so I would trust these SSDs to be reliable and perform at peak performance throughout the life of the device. One last thought, get the biggest you can afford. You will always find that you need more!
