Review on Shure 55SH II Unidyne Microphone by Alec Winsor

Pros: - Definitely one of the nicest mics I've ever used - Build quality is top notch except for the plastic part next to the stylus. Some artists say this mic makes their voice perfect, and you might be in luck. Cons: The mids and highs were a bit harsh (at least for my voice). Crate. I had to make some powerful equalizers with this one. It doesn't have a humbucker coil. So if your environment has a lot of electromagnetic interference, you can hear it through a headset or monitor speakers. Very sensitive to explosive sounds. Even with voicing and/or off-axis speaking, I needed a pop filter to deal with explosives. Overall: It's hard to say if this mic is good or bad overall. I know it didn't sound quite "right" to my voice. My voice is mostly quiet, but I didn't expect this mic to have such a punchy mids and highs. Nothing a little EQ couldn't fix, but it was noticeable. While it's difficult to bend sheet metal perfectly, the bent parts of this mic still had some imperfections (e.g. uneven dents). I really wanted to like this mic. Appearance isn't everything, however. I wanted a mic that would sound great for MY voice (again, any mic could sound great for my voice but horrible for someone else's voice and vice versa). With my Samson Q2U, my voice sounded much nicer despite being about 1/4 the price of a Super 55 Deluxe. Again, your voice can go well with this mic. My voice just didn't play well with this mic.
