Shure 55SH II Unidyne Microphone Review

My friends think I'm crazy! I ordered this mic, disassembled it and powder coated the body bright red! I replaced the foam windshield with yellow foam on the inside. After soldering the wires inside and reassembling, I tested it. The clarity of this mic is AMAZING! I took the risk of taking it apart and changing the look, but if the band gift this mic to our lead guitarist/vocalist, he'll go nuts! Excellent microphone also /after/ modifications!

Everyone loves old school style mics. I bought this for a good friend who is a bit of a crooner. The beauty of this mic is that it has an old school appeal but with a very modern sound. It is very similar to the Shure Beta 58a and the reason for the similarity is that it uses the same capsule which sounds clearer and more modern than the older SM58 and has a hotter output. Bought a Super 55 Deluxe for my wife to use during home studio rehearsals. She was using a $100 Sennheiser E835 Dynamic Cardioid and *hated* it, so I decided to fix it. I used to have a Shure 55SH mic and while it looked stunning I was never satisfied with the sound. It doesn't matter how good a mic looks on stage, if it doesn't sound good it doesn't belong there, except as a prop. Pros: - Definitely one of the nicest mics I've ever used - Build quality is top notch except for the plastic part next to the stylus. Some artists say this mic makes their voice perfect, and you might be in luck. Cons: The mids and highs were a bit harsh (at least for my voice). Crate.
