Review on Ibera Bike Rack Frame Mounted Adjustable by Bim Cook

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Sturdy, will stand up to your products but cheap screws

I've been using this shelf for about a year so I thought it was time to write a review. ***What I like* *** I bought this shelf primarily to bring groceries home. 2 full Ortlieb baskets (with retractable top) hold about 40 pounds (with what I'm buying anyway). Because this shelf supports up to 55 pounds (the highest load capacity I've found in this price range!), it leaves quite a bit of wiggle room for more groceries or for attaching items to the top of the shelf. * She is strong. For a year of transportation of products, it did not bend, did not creak. It certainly looks like it will last a long time. *Despite putting on and taking off clipper bags (and probably getting snagged with pebbles at times) and even sitting half closed in the rain, the cover didn't come off. * Hands make it adjustable. I have a small frame mountain bike so not much fits on the frame. I was able to adjust the forearms so the stance was straight. (The arms of the hub are also adjustable). A few reviewers have mentioned having to bend my arms - I don't need that *lot of room to hook in the cargo net or elastic cords. I had a storage box (slightly larger than a milk crate) that was fitted with a 2x2 cargo net like the Powertye 50153 Blue 15"X15" Cargo Net with 6 adjustable hooks and 2"x 2" tight mesh (the one I bought) * YES THIS IS SUITABLE FOR YOUR ORTLIEB ROLLER BAGS/SUITCASES *** Why did it lose a star *** (actually wish it could only be half a star) * Included in the set screws CHEAP. They bend easily even when you install the stand. Ditch the included bolts (if they haven't updated their bolts since) and buy stainless steel at the hardware store ($3-$5 to replace them all, probably cheaper if you can buy individual bolts at Revain). Design 101 - A structure is only as strong as a component is weakened, and screws can destroy the entire rack. missed?), so it won't fit in the rack. To their credit, customer service was VERY quick to respond and sent me a replacement lever set. The replacement parts I received were slightly different sizes and made of a much lighter material. Given the problem with cheap screws, I didn't trust these lightweight replacements. I ended up having a friend grind the edge down until it fit into the rack. In general, it seems that they are trying to economize on components that, as I said before, weaken the entire system. *** Verdict *** If you are looking for an inexpensive and roomy luggage rack, check out this one. Just be ready to replace the screws with something better. You can correct the negatives if Ibera has not corrected them since you bought them in 2017.
