To be honest I don't like my son drinking from this mug. After the first and only use I washed it and from washing it smelled like steel on my hands. Which made me wonder, if this scent got into my hands, how could it not get into his water. I think I'll put this mug down and just squeeze out the $17 I spent. My husband and I have several Yeti/RTIC mugs and I have never smelled steel on my hands after washing them. I thought it was, but now I know it's better to invest in better quality if I'm going down the stainless steel route. The design is very nice but the quality is not for me.
