I normally use a saber saw to chop down fallen branches or entire trees and have used Skil Ugly 9 inch pruning shears in the past. They work well, but always lose sharpness. Pretty quick for me and I always ended up using them on something thicker than they were long so it didn't take long for the blade to go from a straight to a Z shape. With a 12 inch blade I can cut thicker materials with less chance of ruining the blade and these Diablo blades seem to clean the cut better which reduces the amount of heat.
