This is the only way to cook rice. I have a Hawaiian family so rice is a staple. After about 15 years our little rice cooker broke so we ordered this one. On first use the internal valve failed leaving all the water behind. Above. in. above. Ooooooooo dirty. When we wanted to pour the rice onto the plates, the rice was still so soft due to the broken valve. The water then spilled over our counter because so much water had spilled from above. When I took the rice off the stove it was so light and not very strong. Next time we used it we forgot to fix the valve before boiling and the same thing happened. Tonight I made sure the valve was seated properly before cooking and once again my whole counter is a mess and my rice is limp. Not worth $30.
