Review on BOSCH RA1177AT Three-Piece Dust Extraction Hood Kit for Mr23-Series: Efficient Dust Control Solutions for Ultimate Precision by Jeffrey Crutcher

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Decent dust pickup, poor build quality.

Product makes sense and really works. I also like that you get three parts and installation hardware. Dust pickup on my current project (milling quarter-inch x quarter-inch MDF screwdrivers) is between 75 and 80 percent, which is a big improvement. However, as many people have seen and appreciated, the build quality of the plastic is very poor. After the third or fourth use, the plastic on the DC scuba base cracked. It hasn't even been used because the router fell on its side on my bench and the bit broke at the bend where it connects to the part that goes over where the bit cuts. I wasn't really upset because I knew from the reviews it was a risk to buy. Although for collecting dust it's better than nothing. I used Titebind CA glue to hold it in place, but who knows how long it will last. However, it was depressing. I feel like Bosch should just make some quality dust caps out of a stronger material for all the tech they make, maybe aluminum with clear acrylic to see the cut area, with rubber grommets or something - then another one, um to create a great seal the DC area. I'm not even an engineer and I can imagine such things. LET'S BOSCH, TURN ON YOUR ENGINEER! YOU MAKE IT, WE BUY IT YOU MAKE GREAT ROUTERS. CHECK OUT FESTOOL PEOPLE PAY MONEY FOR QUALITY. PLEASE UPDATE YOUR DUST COLLECTION PARTS TO THE LEVEL OF YOUR ROUTER! Okay, I hope Bosch sees this and other feedback and takes appropriate action. Customers deserve the best product. End of the story.
