I bought the 5X magnifying lamp for doing macrame at night in the living room without having to use the regular lamps or overhead light, which ruin my partner's nighttime TV experience. I also have to wear glasses in low light or when doing detail work, so I was hoping the magnifying glass would eliminate that. Unfortunately, the magnifying glass isn't suitable for hand crafting, because it has to be so close to the object to work that there is no room to also have your hands in there, working on knots or stitches. It would be useful for reading, but not much else.The lamp itself is great, though, and I decided to keep it just for that function. I can attach it to any table or use the floor base, and the arm is flexible enough to get into any position I need. Also, I love that the light is dimmable and has options for cool, warm, and neutral tones; very helpful in choosing colors in an otherwise dark room. Without the floor base, it folds down neatly and is very light, so I've even been able to travel with it, which has been a nice added bonus.
