Review on Kaytee Comfort Exercise Wheel Colors by Lisa Hill

Revainrating 3 out of 5

A squeaky wheel is greased.

Bought in size 8.5" for our baby Syrian hamster. We wanted to mount it right on the side wall of the cage (standard crittertrail). You think you'll break it if you pull hard enough. I put a stand on the floor with my feet on the wire base, grabbed the part of the axle inside the wheel and pulled FIRMLY It snapped off and nothing broke The plastic part of the clamp that goes through the wire rods and twists shut hold is very stiff and ended up bending the cage bars but it is reliable.after installation we found it incredibly loud not squeaky very loud which can be heard in the next room and downstairs.so on youtube to find some hacks , we decided To use the packet tape/oil, use pliers to do this and squeeze the tip of the axle to push the wheel out, then take a piece of clear packet Tape and wrap around Find the axle and lightly grease it with vegetable/olive/mineral oil. collect and hope for the best, everything worked. It's not exactly quiet, but we can all sleep now. Lessons learned. If you want an inexpensive hamster wheel that is safe and comfortable for your hamster but you need to finish the design, that's fine. But if you want something that works out of the box, keep looking. Get one of the silent spinners. For us this is a temporary wheel. We will be building a throw cage and using a 12 inch silent spinner for our Syrian when he is older. Edit: Update, our packing tape hack only made it quieter for a night or two, so we tried putting a rubber band around the back. Axles, that's another hack that was suggested, again not much of a difference.
