Review on 🌑️ Optimized OXO Good Grips Glass Candy and Deep Fry Thermometer by Miriam Moore

OXO Good Grips thermometer: my first negative review. Is always. UPDATED DEC 2018

I trust OXO products so I am very disappointed with this thermometer. Like other reviewers, I first tested it for accuracy by testing it in boiling water and it was accurate (212F). A few weeks ago I made caramel using a tried and true family recipe. I cooked them to 245F, poured them into a saucepan, let them cool, and when I was ready to cut them into individual pieces, the candies turned into a solid, solid block. I threw them away. What a waste of time and ingredients. Today I decided to try again, but this time I used my digital thermometer at the same time. I found that the OXO thermometer reads 6 degrees Fahrenheit lower than the digital when it goes above 230 Fahrenheit. Unfortunately, Revane's return period has passed, so I now have a unit that I need to either replace or adjust. Lesson learned: Pay more attention to those negative reviews. UPDATE: I bought this in October 2016 and have now used it 3 times to make Christmas candies, 2016, 2017 and now 2018. Unfortunately this thermometer is unreliable and inaccurate. I calibrated it in 2016 and 2017 - it was off by 6 degrees. I adjusted the temperature of the lollipop preparation considering 6 degrees. My sweets failed. Effectively failed. I calibrated two days ago - I was wrong by 2 degrees. My candy went wrong again. Maybe I got a defective product. I expect more from an OXO product. I'm tired of wasting time, energy, and money to make this work, and while I'm stubborn, I know when to stop. I'm going to buy a new thermometer now. My advice from the 2016 review still applies: pay attention to these negative reviews.
