Description of ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Optimized OXO Good Grips Glass Candy and Deep Fry Thermometer

Glass thermometer is offset to allow for large, easy-to-read graphics. Easy-to-read graphics include temperature ranges for different candy types. Measurement markings indicate temperature within two degrees in F and C. Convenient clip is extra-long to make it easy to attach, remove or adjust. Rounded foot helps prevent scraping sides or bottom of pot. Hand wash only-do not immerse in water.

Broke after 4th use

The bottom of the thermostat broke off after the 4th use, used it to check the oil temp before frying fries, only ever left it in the oil long enough to cool the to check temperature. I'm just glad it didn't break, but it would be bad in oil

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Working

It broke and mercury got into the oil

We have been using this for several months and agree with other reviews that the temperature is not accurate. Last night the mercury red liquid erupted and exploded in the butter we were cooking so we had to throw it all away. The oil wasn't even that hot - very disappointing as I own/use/like so many OXO products.

Pros
  • Complete set
Cons
  • Not bad but...

Regret Candy

This thermometer came with a red liquid that is divided into many sections. The back of the package said it can detach from the sitter and shake slightly to get back together. That does not work. I tried putting it in the freezer overnight, it didn't help. They know they have a problem with that thermometer. I have many OXO products and they are all excellent. This one is not worth buying.

Pros
  • Beautiful
Cons
  • Don't remember

An instructive story - kitchen utensils and gadgets

Ordered about half a year ago. I tried it for the first time today and it doesn't work! There appears to be some sort of clear liquid in it, but it's impossible to read, so I don't know if it registers at all. I'm mad at myself for not testing it sooner because it's too late to return it. Let me warn everyone to make sure your products work before it's too late.

Pros
  • Only positive
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

The best food thermometer on the market!

I've tried dozens of cheaper versions of this thermometer over the years. For the home cook who still cooks and bakes the old fashioned way, this is the best thing ever. Perfect temperature calibration, easy to read, convenient hanging at the bottom of the pot with a sliding clip keeps it securely in place. Frying, making candy, or just want to keep an eye on the soup/chilli temperature, you'll love this tool!

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Not accurate enough for my use.

Making caramel from goat's milk. I've been using ThermoWorks Dot digital thermometers for over two years and thought this might be the best device. To test this, I made a batch and placed the device, along with two probes attached to their ThermoWorks points, in the copper-colored mason jar I'm cooking in. OCHO points registered 227. Returned

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Hard to say

Easy to read; easy to clean

We used a Good Grips Candy and Deep Fry Thermometer to make fried chicken, we had a birthday to celebrate! This is the first time we have a roast thermometer. It was easy to read, easy to clean, and seemed accurate. We have had good luck with Good Grips products and I prefer them to other brands. The movable clip securely attached the thermometer to the side of the enamel pan we used, and the thermometer is tapered to avoid scratching the enamel surface.

Pros
  • Same as everything before
Cons
  • Update available

Totally useless for making candy.

This is the first OXO product that I find completely unacceptable. OXO should take it off the market or adjust the temperature scale. Candy labeling is completely wrong. The marked temperature for caramel is much higher than the temperature used to make caramel. The scale isn't even close. I can't believe someone in OXO's QA department didn't spot these bugs before the product was released. Luckily I noticed the problem before I took it out of the box. I had to send it back to Revain for a full

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • embarrassing

I trust OXO products so I am very disappointed with this thermometer. Like other reviewers, I first tested it for accuracy by testing it in boiling water and it was accurate (212F). A few weeks ago I made caramel using a tried and true family recipe. I cooked them to 245F, poured them into a saucepan, let them cool, and when I was ready to cut them into individual pieces, the candies turned into a solid, solid block. I threw them away. What a waste of time and ingredients. Today I decided toโ€ฆ
