A great standard zoom lens for your Canon body.

We use this lens (we have two of them) on the Canon 70D and 7D Mk II. We have a Sigma 18 up to 250mm f/3.5- 6.3 DC Macro OS HSM lens which has been increasingly disappointing as a general purpose walking lens. The images seemed somehow flat and lifeless. This Canon lens is much better. The images seem to jump at you. This can be because the Canon camera body recognizes the lens and then applies corrections to the image. Whatever the reason, this lens seems to be orders of magnitude better than the Sigma in terms of resolution, contrast, bokeh and sharpness. Focusing is very quick and quiet (which can be confusing at first), and image quality is excellent. As Tony Northrup and others have pointed out, high-resolution APS-C cameras can be very effective for sports photography because you can get a multiplier (x1.6 at Canon) and crop to get an image and get even better. Resolution than a longer focal length lens on a full-frame camera that has the same number of pixels on a larger image sensor. So don't let the seemingly short focal length at the end of the zoom range fool you. Combine this with a dedicated macro lens and a wide angle lens for very narrow shots and you have very good equipment for shooting in most situations. We love this lens and can only recommend it.
