The three star rating isn't because of the PID, it's very good and works great. However, the thermocouple that comes with this device seems to be a problem for many. The one that came with my device worked perfectly the first day, and then it all went down the drain. The second day when I turned on the PID, the temperature readings were scattered all over the place. The wiggling of the thermocouple wires where they connected to the PID changed the temperature several hundred degrees. Upon closer inspection I saw that the blue crimp connector had been crimped onto the wire without stripping. To solve this problem I cut off both connectors, removed the insulation and connected directly to the PID without using crimp connectors. The PID is now working properly and the temperature readings are very stable.
