Review on πŸͺ’ Merkur MK-4700 Classic Double Edge Safety Razor by Katie Garcia

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I've tried them all - my search is over!

I just had no idea what a difference a well made razor and blade can make. I've used all the multi-blade razors, you know the ones that sell you a pack of 4 blades for $25. I've tried regular folding razors with double-edged blades and Schick blades. I tried disposable razors and blades from Dollar Shave Club (really cool company, don't get me wrong). But it took me almost 50 years to discover a truly close and comfortable shave. This shaver is simply the best. It's heavy enough to do all the work for you and easy to hold with wet hands. Add to this razor a good blade (I've tried them all and settled on the Astra and Feather) AND a decent shaving cream (cream works best for me) and you can see why people pay more for quality. It REALLY takes time to get used to a reversible razor with a really sharp blade. But once you get used to it (that is, once you've stopped the bleeding), you'll never use Harry's or Gillette's Atra razors again. It all starts with the right razor. Please investigate. This Merkur razor (MK-47001) is the best razor I've ever used (I also have a Merkur Futur which is good and almost double the price but easier to use and feels nicer in the hand). You'll also find that the sharpest and most expensive reversible blades are still worth a penny compared to the insane prices you pay for the 3, 4, or 5 blade cartridges you buy at CVS or Walgreens. Replace the blades about every week (blades are cheap) and don't trust a cartridge manufacturer that says their cartridge will last a month.
