Good enough for our needs

If you're trying to expand your furniture budget, this First Hill pouf could make a lovely addition to your home, man cave or dorm room. Looks good, easy to assemble, not expensive. From a construction standpoint, it feels solid and should last a couple of years. It's surprisingly light (about 11 pounds according to the shipping carton) so it can easily be moved by one person - easier if you remove the lid and move it in two pieces. Plywood or MDF inside. It's strong enough to hold my 4 year old who immediately wanted to hide in it after assembling it. The legs are solid blocks of wood and all you have to do is screw them on (4pcs - allen key included). The tufted look is nice, although the underside of the lid and stool are very ugly and you can see the braces. This is purely functional furniture – things that you use for several years and then throw away. The photos match the actual product exactly, so I'm just uploading a few photos of the case it comes in and the hardware box that's attached inside. The packaging isn't too wasteful - the packaging box is regular brown cardboard (recyclable) and the large plastic outer bag can be reused for rubbish collection. Luckily there is no styrofoam here. We have several mass produced Chinese stools and benches that we have collected over the years. They look good enough and work well enough for our needs. We use them for toys or guest pillows/quilts. My only real complaint is how ugly the underside of the leg cover looks. We have another ottoman with a reversible top that can be used as a tray. This one doesn't. We love its height and the fact that it doesn't slip. The small legs are attached with very small screws and one of them has already come loose so be careful. The lid is MDF (mostly pressed sawdust) and I need wood glue and a new, longer screw to secure the dropped leg.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Hard to say
