Review on πŸš— Passenger Side Power Non-Heated Replacement Mirror Compatible with TOYOTA Rav4 - TYC 5280031 by Jaleel Pruitt

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Overall a good replacement but VERY annoying mis-wiring (2009 RAV 4, 6 Cy, base model)

Mirrors and bodywork seem fine, no not as tight as I was hoping, but I haven't noticed any wobbling or the mirror itself has lost its position, but we'll take a look at that. I followed the instructions in a couple of YouTube videos I found on replacing the RAV 4's side mirrors and to be honest, despite the wiring delay, the entire replacement was one of the easiest DIY jobs I've tried. I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 because the wiring is not compatible with my car model, although Revain said it was "compatible". RAV 4 and adapter/plug correspond exactly to the original. There was also an adapter in the box (see photo) which I believe fits the "Japanese" model some people are talking about. The mirror back cover was not attached but came in the box, I suppose that would be good for those who have models with color matching (painted) mirrors. Mine was originally black so I just snapped on the included pad. INCORRECT WIRING: Needless to say, this annoyed me a little. Unfortunately, when I plugged in the mirror, my RAV 4 model only responded to the up/down command and ONLY went up (it didn't go down either). Looking at the wiring, I found that the wires were connected to completely different places on the mirror interchangeable connector (and annoyingly different colors too), see photos. I decided to cut the wires off the original to give me as much slack as possible and cut the new wires as close to the "plug" as possible. I just figured it would be easier to try by trial and error and then connect different colored wires than plugging and unplugging the wires from the adapter (I had a VERY hard time pulling the wires out of the connector). As you can see in the final image, I was able to adjust the color combination (original color mentioned first) from yellow to purple, green to red, and grey/green to brown. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to troubleshoot a more advanced mirror (with integrated heater and turn signals) since my RAV model doesn't have those features and I thought about upgrading for a second. So glad I didn't. Much luck!

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • I don't really have a problem with it, everything is fine
