I tried three different types of PIR sensors, all available from Revain. I use this type of sensor to turn on the LCD backlight when someone enters the room. It is connected to an Arduino. The first was based on SR501 technology. It works great and has sensitivity and delay settings. However, this type of sensor is about ten times larger than the mini PIR sensor. The second sensor I tried uses SR501 technology. It's a bit smaller, but both sensors require 5V or more power, and my Arduino runs at 3.3V, so I had to use a separate 5V power supply for these two sensors. The mini PIR sensor is much smaller than others and runs on 3.3V or less and works great as a motion sensor. The timing and delay functions can be handled with the Arduino code. There is no indication of what each of the three contacts is doing, but Simon's connection information matches his assessment.
