I bought two bulbs, one for each of my Germ Guards. I replaced the first bulb (after reading the Q&A. Yes, it's difficult, but when the metal plate comes off, it's easy). Replaced the first bulb. It was INOP. Then I tried a second lightbulb on the same device. also INOP. I looked at both bulbs and one of them was shaking inside so I figured it was bad. I tried the "good" option again to contrast both positions and it still didn't work. So I sent both lamps back to Amazon. I was surprised when I saw a popup that said 'Speak to a member of staff before sending them back. Over 50% of the problems with this product can be solved with one employee.” Obviously I thought it was crazy, but okay, I'll talk. Long story short, the rep asked me to try the new onions in my Other Germ Guardian. I don't because a lightbulb is either good or bad, right? But I also read all the reviews saying these bulbs were bad and I figured it couldn't hurt, especially since I have a second set. Guardian of microbes. Apparently the socket on my first Germ Guardian failed along with the bulb. After examining both burned bulbs, I found that one was very dark and the other was light brown. The darker one also had a burnt plug. I understand that most people may not have another Germ Keeper in their house to do this experiment with. But I warn people not to check the plug before even buying these bulbs. If you get power then go ahead and buy a replacement. But if you don't have an outlet, don't waste your money. If your Germ Guardian is still under warranty, you can get a replacement for the entire unit. I'm glad I contacted customer service. At least I have UV in the children's room where I need it to get rid of the shoe smell :o] My office will run without UV until I feel like investing in a new germ protection.
