If you use something else, don't use the best, easy to install and inexpensive UPDATE: July 10, 2018

UPDATE July 10: Well I just bought another one to replace the one I have Had in my guest bathroom for several years, the amount of rust that looks like sludge at the bottom of a tank of "clean" water takes away any wonder as to why they don't last forever (and why I drink filtered/bottled water). As always, installation is easy and hassle-free. I've learned over the years that wearing work gloves and tightening the large plastic nut on the fitting next to the tank poses less of a problem as it can be tightened very tightly with gloves on without over-tightening with a wrench (which leads to can lead to leaks). The end that attaches to the lines obviously requires a wrench, but again, don't overdo it. What can I say, basically you use Fluidmaster or you will regret it. These things aren't programmed to wear out after a few years, but chemicals and mineral scale and the like ensure they last at least 3-5 years, or up to 7 years depending on your water conditions, and are easy to replace and simple set. . I've tried several other brands over the years and keep coming back to them for their ease of installation and build quality. They are so inexpensive and easy to install that they are usually just as easy to replace. I'm almost done trying other brands, so I buy them every time, and I keep one in my closet for emergencies and replace when I need to use them. Nowadays you always have it at hand. NOTICE / WARNING. Almost all the problems I've read about in other reviews are due to 3 things because after 26 years, 2 houses and 6 toilets these things do NOT fail in less than 3-5. Years (the time depends on your water and many random things): MAKE SURE your swimmer's arm or the arm attached to your grip is not tied to anything when you put the cap on. If they've been working on the water lines in your area, chances are some debris was sent down the line that could stop/slow the valve (a flushing procedure is included in the box that may help with this). "Type cleaners" will shorten the life of this or any other flush valve, don't use it! There have been people who have asked why this one and not the 400A. I've included a chart to show what you're paying those few dollars for. Water for the house, no running water in the toilet These valves usually sit there for many years and if you turn the water off and then turn it back on many times they will leak for at least a few hours or more if you shut off the outside water supply , avoid these possible problems, if the eau de toilette valve has been used in the recent past without any problems, then this can be ignored.
