From a distance they look real, but up close they obviously aren't. They look best in the evening hours. Fake candles do not look good during the day. Real candles are still best for burning during the day to create ambiance. They are good for what I use them for. One on the piano, the other on the windowsill by the front door. The remote control is the best way to use these fake candles, especially the timer. I put a small label on my timer stating which candle(s) it is for because I have other remotes in my drawer for various fake candles, for my Christmas tree, etc. The outside of the candle is completely real, like wax. So it's dented and scratched like a real candle so be careful. Be sure to keep the box for storage. Enjoy!
