The compact and the brush set at a glance. I love her!

My wife (wife) has a brush set and a compact set. At first I had a compact set, but I wanted a few more colors (for beginners) and a set that was portable enough for the trip ahead. I saw a bunch of brushes and I liked it! The pen serves my needs well, the palette size is small for travel but still room for mixing, and I can carry a small bottle of the recycled SweetLeaf candy to refill the pen tube when I'm on the go. I also got a few other brush pens. Overall I like it and a few complementary colors. Nice compact set. I don't use the thumb hole much myself, but someone might. I'd rather have more shades (b,w,g) than 2 (different) shades of yellow, 2 very similar oranges and 3 different shades of brown. Black, white and gray would be very helpful. The water bowl likes to fall over and hardly holds any water. I use it as extra mixing space and leave it in place. But overall it was a great starting point. If you're just starting out, I'd grab a set of brush pens and a few extra brushes (I bought mine on sale at Hobby Lobby, or Pentel here for a set of water brushes) and maybe a white china/ceramic mixing bowl. Check out Big Lots, I found mine there for about $4. Watercolor tends to roll on plastic, so the sheet comes in handy when painting at home. Overall, I love my Cotman W&N watercolors!
