Luckily I had parts from the old pump that I replaced. That's good enough for my purposes, but the best I can say is - I dump wash water in the garden by pumping it out of the sink in the laundry room where the washing machine drains. But I have to manually turn the power on and off and shake/push the pump pretty hard to make it "click" and start pumping water, otherwise it just sits and makes try and fail noises. And the water should almost cover it except for the push to launch it. On earlier pumps, the mercury switch sometimes worked automatically, but on most it didn't, so the need to manually turn the power on and off is not that uncommon. But previous similar pumps only needed the water to get about 3/4 the height of the pump to work and didn't need to be pushed/shaked. So I have to stay there to have it running which is a waste of time instead of just letting it run automatically when I do my laundry. Maybe for the price it's all you can expect these days.
