I bought them so that detergent powders (baking soda and borax) would be easily accessible on the shelf above my washing machine. I have Rubbermaid containers for our cereal and I am happy. They are a bit different and I found the top to come off easily which doesn't feel the most secure of not "losing the top" and dropping a lot of product (which has happened a couple of times). I don't see using it for any product other than cereal changing this design issue. The lip around the top of the lid just isn't deep enough to be reliable. And I don't want a lot of cereal ending up in the bowl and over the counter.
