There are three ways to connect the transmitter to the TV and any of the three would work on my TV (three year old, normal - not " intelligent" - 20-inch Samsung). Nothing in the instructions indicated which choice would give the best sound, so I chose the easiest route first and connected the "Audio Cable" to the "AUX Audio Out Headset" jack on my TV and the other end to the transmitter. After experimenting with this for a couple of nights, I then unplugged the audio cable (make sure you've done this if you've started plugging it in like I did) and plugged the "optical audio cable" into the " optical out" of my TV and then plugged the other end into the transmitter. (Connecting "Optical Audio" is a bit trickier as after connecting the cable you need to go into your TV's menu and make sure "External Speakers" and "PCM Audio Format" are selected before it worked.) Both c-connections gave great sound (I personally didn't notice any difference) and both connections muted external audio on my particular TV when the "ON/OFF" switch on the transmitter was turned on. connection to my television. He was next to the TV, not behind it. The USB cable must be connected to both the TV and the transmitter in order for the transmitter to be powered. The headphones are battery powered and were already charged when I took them out of the box. What the instructions didn't mention was turning the headphones on and off. There's a silver button on the left earcup (the letters 'L' and 'R' are faintly written on the adjuster above each earcup) and you have to press and 'hold' the button until a voice tells you headphones are connected . In the same way, turn off the headphones until the voice says "goodbye". Overall I felt the instructions could have been clearer, especially for the headphones, but they were clear enough. Once I understood the instructions (I'm a bit slow when it comes to instructions), setting up the transmitter and headphones was pretty easy. . The headphones are very comfortable, easy to adjust and deliver great sound that doesn't go beyond the headphones. (On the air side of the headphones' silver power button are "+" and "-" buttons for volume control.) Overall, this device is well designed and I'm very happy with it.
