My son usually wears a size 4 and that's what I got. They fit him well so I would say they are true to size. This is a very thick fabric, unlike most garments currently made. The waist is elastic. There are no buttonholes to tighten them and the waist is a bit big for my son but not so big that they fall off. The cotton bands in the front can pull the pants taut, but he doesn't tie them himself, so that's a bit of a concern. The length is good. My main complaint is that they have a second layer of fabric on the knees (where my son usually rips his clothes) but it's not there - it's just a seam with a regular piece of fabric. boo All seams are intact, I could not find any manufacturing defects. Made in Indonesia. 97% cotton, 3% elastane. Machine wash in warm water, tumble dry.
