Review on Edelbrock 3764 INTAKE MANIFOLD by Josh Schaefer

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Poorly thought out.

Several aspects of this design suggest that Edelbrock is not considering (or perhaps not caring for) its use. 1.: No attachment for factory throttle cable bracket. , so you'll have to make it yourself or buy their $40 "universal" model. They could create a place to sit up if they wanted. Who knows, maybe that's how they planned it. Second, the casting is larger since it's aluminum, so the alternator bracket won't fit. Again, with a little thought an engineer could do this, instead you'll need to modify your mount. (Maybe they sell an overpriced version of this too.) 3rd: The water inlet in front of the TBI is so close to the outlet that after tightening the hose, a standard yoke (a flat metal strap with a screw) won't fit between the hose and the body. Serious. The hose is actually squeezed between the pipe fitting and the manifold. After pushing it in (and gouging my hand out), I ended up with a 90 clamp on the hose that was slightly out of line. Not perfect, but doesn't budge. The water fitting on the back of the TBI does not fit into the steel mill water line. It's ok, but the steel pipe diverted water under the manifold and didn't bother a large crowd in places (coil, manifold, map sensor, etc.). The presence of the steel line also meant that if that line leaked into the hose clamp fitting, the leak was behind the engine. Routing the hose to the back of the TBI, as Edelbrock requires, means that if it ever leaks, it will be sprayed all over the ignition system and ECM.4 fittings. EGR mounting holes are not factory fitted. So you'll have to buy another $50 EGR valve to match the Edelbrock fittings or pull out your old one like I did. The intake ports are smaller than the factory iron manifold. This reduces airflow and torque at low revs. I'm not done yet and I suspect there are other items I'll find along the way. What should have been a simple backup job turned into multiple production projects. Overall, it doesn't seem well thought out and overpriced. If you have another option, I recommend this distributor.

Pros
  • Base operating speed from ideal to 5500 rpm
Cons
  • Expensive
