Much quieter than factory

My 2005 Scion xB has always been louder than I thought it would be. With a sound level meter, it averages 75 to 78 decibels while driving on the freeway, peaking at 82 decibels. With this new muffler I averaged 64 decibels and peaked at 74 decibels under hard acceleration. Installation was relatively easy. Use an angle grinder with a cut-off wheel to remove the handle from the old muffler where it meets the rubber suspension mounts. It's a lot easier than trying to glue rubber to a metal head. I was also able to cut off the bolt holding the yoke as it was so rusty it wouldn't come loose otherwise. The old muffler should just slide off. There is a 2 inch pipe that goes from the resonator to the muffler pipe, so don't cut it. Scrape off the old gasket with a screwdriver. I also found that using sandpaper removed the rust and remaining gasket fairly well. First put the muffler on the rubber mounts, then put on a new gasket and attach the hanging muffler to the tuned pipe. Click and done. The only complaint about the muffler is that it doesn't reach the bumper by 3-4 inches. The pipe is 1.5" in diameter, so order a 7" chrome exhaust tip and you can get the exhaust out from under your car.
