I bought this vise to replace a 4 1/2 vise 51862 that broke on me. You could buy a new base to replace the broken one. I broke the master with my own actions trying to remove a rusted 90 degree elbow that had been sitting on a 1 1/2 piece of black pipe for many years. I used a pipe wrench and a 4 foot piece of pipe on the pipe wrench for leverage. This would not have moved the fitting, but instead fractured the base at a lug screwed into the master's vise. Anyway, this new Yost 5 1/2 vise is about 12 pounds heavier and taller than the Master 4. 1/2 I have to say the base of the Yost doesn't look as strong as the Master. The Master's base is thicker and appears more muscular than that of the Jost. All other aspects of Jost appear to be heavier than the Master. This is a large vise in comparison, so I would expect them to be bigger and heavier. I hope the Yost base can handle any heavy projects I might have. Cutting wheel where it was threaded and it came off easily. This is what I did after breaking the master vise and being able to remove the fitting without a vise. Just hit it a few times with a hammer and unscrew it. manually. If I had done it first I wouldn't be writing this review. All in all I like these trucks because they are bigger. I just hope the foundation lasts. Screws down if too much torque is applied to it.
