After a fall and a nice little finger injury I ordered these hoping they would be better than the bandages available at the local pharmacy. They are well made and appear to be more durable than a winding splint. There are built in loops to hold the Velcro straps and the ends of the straps have a wider tab to make them easier to grab and release. At three sizes, the little one was too small for my finger, didn't extend far enough past the proximal interphalangeal joint in the middle of the finger, and contained only one strap so it didn't fit well. The average size showed promise, but it was too long. The ends are slightly rounded in width and appear to have been sanded lightly or perhaps sanded to reduce edge roughness. However, when in place, the end still rubs the palm uncomfortably. With two straps, the medium size holds up much better than the small, but if your finger doesn't stay in line with your hand, it tends to bounce off the palm as the finger moves forward with its buds. This leaves room for improvement. As an engineer and craftsman, I decided to modify the XHIVAR fingertip a bit. It's made out of what looks like aluminum and is tapered in the middle so it can be bent to fit the top and bottom of your finger so it was very easy to straighten it out. The blue coating was slightly dented, like it was peeling off, but the coating had some elasticity so it held. I then gently placed the splint against my palm, bent my fingers forward at about a 90 degree angle to my palm, and visually marked where the end of my finger touched the splint. I found a tool with a bar diameter about the thickness of my finger, placed it on the hoop and wrapped the hoop around the bar, leaving the back of the hoop longer than the front. That being said, the paintwork has regained its original smooth surface texture, and the extra length on the back isn't an issue unless you have double hinges and want to flex your toes back. When the modified splint is placed on an injured finger, it now fits much better than before, with minimal discomfort when it hits your palm unless you're trying to fully close your fingers to form a fist. With two velcro straps including one over the ankle, the splint holds much better and offers much better support. If you get these and one that doesn't quite fit, try this little modification and I think you'll agree it's an improvement. I haven't tried the large size but it's similar to the others. In summary, this is a nice little device that does its job well, but can be modified fairly easily if needed. The only thing I could mention is that it's not exactly easy to write a review (or anything else) with a splint on your finger.
