Review on πŸ”§ Genuine Subaru 15208AA130 Oil Filter: Superior Quality & Reliable Performance by Jake Atonyo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

JDM Maximum Credit Filter.

In recent years I have paid a lot of attention to which filters fit my Forester. Because Subaru does things a little differently, finding one that has the right specs and most importantly the right wastegate pressure can often be a challenge. Almost all generics I've found will fit, but the pressure is MUCH low which means the oil gets past the filter more often. I don't trust the build quality of the blue OEM made in North America as others have mentioned that they are made in the Honeywell factory which is the same maker of the beautiful orange FRAM tin. You can find pictures online of people cutting the $2.50 FRAM and Subaru Blue, and they're identical inside. But these. THAT is a whole different game. To be honest the build quality inside is amazing. I've studied many cropping filters and the Toyko Roki is light years above average. Now there are a few caveats about this filter: It's BOLD. And when I say fat, it really is fat. (By that I mean the outside diameter.) On my 2001 Forester, the filter is larger than the oil cooler. It fits perfectly as the gasket and holes are in the same place, but there are a lot of filters to bypass. Note that on many models, due to the location of the headers, you CANNOT use these large filters as they are too close to the header and will overheat the oil. In this respect, you need to know your car whether you can use a "grease filter" or not. If you have a turbo, you probably won't be able to. A naturally aspirated deal would be in order. Revain states this doesn't fit my model, but I can confirm it's fine as my headers are AWAY. The Mazda RX-8 filter is a Toyko Roki that also meets the specs.
