For $30 this is a very good deal. They are well weighted and appear to be quite sturdy. I'm a bit worried that the plastic height adjustment knob will break after a few years. Aesthetically it's not the prettiest speaker stand, but for $30 I'll live with it until I make some custom stands. The rear "clamp" mount looks a little unsightly, esp. Another issue I have is that the top of one of the bars doesn't seem to be level (another reviewer also mentioned this). As a result, the round platform attached to it is not even, which is noticeable when the speaker is put on. Check out the close-up of the gap between the bottom of the speaker and the top of the round stand platform. I had to place a small foam pad on the back of the platform so I could line it up with the other speaker. It might not have been so bad if the two were the same, but my OCD went awry when I saw one angle differ from the other. . Again, for a cheap $30 stand, I didn't mind a simple modification. Speaking of modifications, I also put a felt pad on the round platform so it wouldn't scratch the underside of my speaker. Felt lining can be bought at any hardware store; They are fairly cheap and have an adhesive backing. I used a compass to measure the outer and inner platform rings and then drew/cut the felt pads accordingly. Check out the photo I posted so you can see what I did. If you want to protect the bottom of the speaker, this method might work for you. I only mentioned this because I realized I made a lot of adjustments during the setup process and I could tell it would scratch the speakers. Speaker wire - not sure if others have tried, but I still have 12 gauge wire. after my home renovation which were a bit tight but they worked. I think most 12 gauge should work, depending on the jacket of the wire. Maybe you could go to 10, but I don't think anything thicker would work. One final note - I'm not sure I'll be using this in a high traffic area. I have it behind the sofa, but there is a walkway behind it, so I'm a little worried that it might accidentally bump and fall. They were originally on a shaggy linen rug that extends to the edge of the sofa, but it didn't feel solid to me, so I placed it behind the sofa on a tiled floor where hopefully it won't have any impact (fingers crossed ). However, they are well weighted and I made the height of the speakers as low as possible to get a better center of gravity. If you have them in a low traffic area or in front of a wall I wouldn't worry too much (unless you have pets or kids who like to tip things over - in which case good luck!). At the end of the day this worked for my needs as a temporary fix until I could allocate more for a custom stand. For most people, it will work just fine as a permanent solution. I'm only giving it four stars due to a manufacturing error. I hope this review is helpful to some of you.
