I bought this unit in place of the popular Sabrent because it has a cable on the USB port to disconnect it from the PC (so it only occupies one port). When I plugged in the headset, I only had sound in my right ear. I plugged the 3.5mm into the connection port and started getting static in my left ear. I changed the speaker connector several times, it didn't help. The item I received is clearly defective and will be returned. They don't have quality control like everything else these days. When I connect my headset to Realtek's built-in ports, everything works fine.
