Review on Enhanced Protection and Durability: Combat Sports MMA Kickboxing Shin Guards by Chris Martin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great protection but the velcro straps take a little getting used to

It took me a while to get used to these shin pads for ringside, mixed martial arts, kickboxing. I had several other shin guards and both were removable. Using the velcro straps (mid-calf and just above the ankle) on these shin guards was a different experience and took a little longer to put on. However, when I put them on, I found that they held my feet quite well. I also like the adjustable velcro straps on these shin guards as they allow me to wear sweatpants or other jogging bottoms compared to my old pull-on shinguards. I noticed some imperfections (right or left) after working with the bag for a while. I didn't really notice them shifting until I finished my set as the padding on the front and sides is so thick and cushioning that the impact of my shots didn't feel any different. I think that's a testament to the good quality of these shields. There is also an elasticated sleeve underneath the foot, just in front of the heel, which keeps the protection in place so it doesn't ride up or move too far in any direction. Another issue I had was that the velcro straps on the back of my ankles get quite chafing and chafing when I walk down the stairs in them. This won't be a problem for anyone unless they have to go down the stairs like me (my dressing room is upstairs, heavy bags and practice rooms are downstairs). I haven't noticed any chafing just walking on the floor, mats or in the ring. In terms of durability, these shields seem to be pretty sturdy. Please note that they are made of faux leather. I have owned other Combat Sports faux leather products and have never had a problem with them. I've also found that synthetic products are easier to clean and dry faster. Overall, this is a solid and useful pair of kickboxing pads that do their job well.
