So after over 40 years of shaving with an electric razor I'm back to shaving with blades which have changed a lot since my last experience. I try a new blade every few days. And every time I think I've found my best blade, I'm amazed at my next choice. Planned a Shark Super Stainless with an eye on a cheap and regular daily shave while also having the 'best' blade for dates and special occasions. I paid less than $5 for 50 blades so wasn't expecting much. The boy was surprised. Even with the "better" blades, it takes me 3 foams and passes to get a satisfying shave. Like the topic 40 years ago that led to the switch to electricity, the demonic bumpy neck, the anger and hair growing in different directions, I've resigned myself to posting razor bumps and anger. The Shark blade was so smooth on the first few passes that I had to double check that I was holding the correct razor - the one I'd just inserted the blade into. All the usual easy-to-shave areas on the cheeks and along the jawline are almost too clean-shaven. The neck wasn't much better on the first pass. The 2nd foam and pass was just as smooth with no need for the 3rd on the usual easy sections. This neck still required a bit of finishing with a damp rinsed razor and it returned BBS results and for the first time in my life there were no dents or uncomfortable irritations. The shave was the same as my best attempts with my favorite straight razor but about 1/2 times faster. I'll try to shave for the second time tomorrow with the same blade, although I don't expect another great shave with it. But hey, for a "cheap" blade, who cares. I plan to have a pack of 100 blades on hand soon. I will use these sharks as a basis for comparison for all of my next blade attempts. Will another even cheaper blade (Vokshod) work? We'll see later in the week. I have 5 packs of Shark Platinum to try later - can't imagine they are any better but they could last longer. I'm using my favorite vintage Krona for these tests - labeled Fancy.
