I've used this on 20 gallons, 55 gallons and 75 gallons (with a bit of side work) for three years and it still works. This Penn Plax product works as it should. I have Texas tortoises and they have been small their entire lives so this tank is a decent size for them all to rest in their small spaces. When the light is on they like to sit upstairs and the other can relax on the ramp. Some turtles will get scared and run away when you approach, so the transparent top cover may not give some turtles the comfort they need. As we all know, some turtles are scary and will run away, and some will come to you. I like to make the top of the turtle more comfortable for these guys by experimenting with the substrate and I wrapped the darker material on the sides where a lot of people are. I also have this by the window so the clear top also lets in the natural sun and does its job better than any incandescent bulb. One thing to watch out for is setting the top of the cage on fire with your light. It will soften over time if it gets too close. There's no way the turtles can get to the top unless you have a Houdini turtle, but that forces me to open and close mine, but it still works fine. The only thing I would change about the turtle topper is the ramp. I wish it was much longer. I like to have an open top in my tank so I don't fill the entire tier or a few inches to the top with water so they can't come out. I also like that the water level is about the same as the bottom bar because my turtles like to perch there one on top of the other and also absorb the sunlight in the window, but when it's about that high it's not enough for them ramp . to get into the water. I had a very large plant in the water that would help them get up, but still wish the ramp could expand if needed. I also wish they made it a lot longer so I could add more substrate/soil/dirt/moss and maybe some sort of double ramp action on both sides instead of just one. I think it would be great to connect two tanks together in long distances. Perhaps one pool has nothing but brimming water for deep swimming, while another has plenty of plants and small fish to explore and play with. Overall this is a good product and I would recommend it to turtle lovers.
