Let me first say that I'm giving a low rating as a precaution. 7/2013). I very rarely had problems. With about 50 left of my last set of 100, I had a house fire. Shortly before the fire I had 5 rides in a row that didn't work. When I started recording discs again I forgot about those five, but I haven't recorded a single full disc since. At first I chalked it up to problems with possible smoke damage to the lasers in my drives due to the disc going dead from time to time. In hindsight, I can say that this is because I used a different manufacturer's single-layer discs. It sounds strange, but disc burning has always been something that required very little attention, and being obsessed with the smoke-out-of-fire theory, I didn't think about it. When troubleshooting the process, I narrowed it down to hard drives. Having bought so many, I thought maybe the windows were damaged by the fire. Although this room didn't burn down, perhaps more heat reached it than I expected. So I bought this set of 50 pieces. When I received the package in my mailbox, I opened the box not knowing what item was delivered and about 10 discs fell out of the box at once. At least two rolled away and ended up in the drain next to my car. The box the discs came in was almost twice as wide as the discs themselves, and the only packaging material was a strip of those clear, lightweight, plastic airpacks/bubble bags. By the time they reached me, three or four of them had already burst. None of these discs burned out either. I read reviews from others who said they had the same issues and having previously been so lucky and thinking my issues were caused by something else, I didn't hesitate to buy more drives from Gigablock. I contacted them about the packaging and they replied that the postman was probably rough with the packages but they will definitely pack better in the future. I told them the first hard drives I tried in the kit worked, but ended up not using those hard drives. None of the discs in this set have completed a write cycle. I have archived and shared tons of old family photos, videos and documents and this project is finally coming to an end. So I probably won't need hard drives in such large quantities anymore. I have loved these discs for a long time and was shocked to see all the bad reviews after not buying anything for a while. Now I'm wondering if there has been a change in ownership, production process, etc. There definitely seems to have been a change in policy. I have requested a refund on this set and would like a partial refund on the remaining 30 or so discs from my last set of 100. Not to mention the probably 20 or so discs I had to throw away, narrowing the circle. Problem. If I had this problem with just one set it would be, but for me it started about halfway through my previous purchase two years ago and continued into this purchase two years later so I'm very, very cautious about the purchase or recommend anyone else buying these discs.
