Cut canal with spoon?

I was *very* disappointed with this purchase. The channel that the handle slides into (which fixes the head by friction) looks like it was carved with a blunt spoon. or maybe a scoop of ice cream. Large cavities are formed immediately after opening, as a result of which the handle only touches in a few places. The sides should be flat and the handle should be firmly in the head. I used to see the best woodwork in the high school workshop. Otherwise the finish is nice enough and the hammer is light - just a shame I can't be sure the head stays perpendicular to the handle. EDIT: Well a replacement has arrived and I'm surprised to say it's worse than the original. Maybe I'm price sensitive? I'm upgrading this item from two to three stars, but yes. While I wouldn't say it's a "great" hammer, I hope it's reasonably priced.
