I like this product. It worked fine for about nine months or so. Then I got ugly metal shavings in the can opener itself and also on the edges of the can. The edges were no longer smooth, but they were sharp enough to cut you or get metal shavings in your fingers or, worse, in your food. As a craftsman and thinker, I disassembled the can opener separately from the back (I think you'll need a long thin Phillips screwdriver) and removed any metal shavings I could see. I didn't see any reason why this shouldn't work, so I decided to remove the slotted nut from the front using the large flathead screwdriver I happened to have. The wedge nut is right-hand threaded, meaning it must be turned counter-clockwise to remove. After removing the nut I found (2) .006" washers behind it, which I removed one and put the other back where it came out from behind the nut. Then I put the can opener back together when it fell apart. then tried glass after glass after glass. Worked as well or even better than new. I was very satisfied. No more tipping over the glass and using metal shavings of any kind. Washers behind a slotted nut or not but worth a try for those that can. And for those that said they can't be fixed. Guess what? They can if they have washers behind the spline nut.
