Review on 🎨 General Selection 12x10ml Van Gogh Watercolor Paint Set in Plastic Pocketbox by Carol Miller

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Extraordinary colors, can only recommend this set!

I love these colors! I'm a veteran artist but a relatively new watercolorist. I bought them as a "guilt free" kit to learn new techniques, travel and sketch instead of using my expensive paints. All the colors were packaged nicely, I have to say they were a little difficult to get out of the palette fully packaged but once you started using them it was a lot easier. The labels had the names and all the pigment information you would expect from higher quality paints. I really liked that the color numbers were also printed on the shells so there was no need to label them for future reference. These colors just melt when you touch them with a brush, they're just a dream and don't need to be pre-wetted. necessary. They are pigmented, vibrant, translucent, easy to blend and great to work with. I also enjoy the flow of these colors using the wet on wet technique. The color can be distributed wonderfully and dries without strongly deposited pigments. I will say that most of them are two pigment blends, 21 in total, leaving 15 separate pigment blends. I haven't found it to be a mixing issue. I've mixed with it a lot and have always worked with a "dirty" palette and have never had a problem with dirty colors. Since many of these mixtures are just handy paints anyway, they can be very helpful for the watercolor beginner. I like them so much I even bought a whole set of replacement tubes when they ran out. Having worked with art paints, this set is still the set I pick up and use quite often and is my go-to choice for travel palettes. Big part. The colors come into their own when you work with them. They can rise quite easily if there's a lot of pigment on them, no matter how long it takes to dry. However, if you're glazing to change the overall color, it's no big deal. If you're glazing to add shadows or whatever might be a bit of a bother, I'd recommend creating that shadow together with the object's values. The most problematic thing about this set will not be a problem for most, and that means there is a limit to the amount of paint that can be applied to paper. This is mostly for cheaper paper and when you have a really thick concentration of ink (almost a massive tone). The first few washes are fine, but too many, or if one coat has a high concentration of ink, it can fill the paper's tooth and leave the page glossy. I assume it has something to do with the binder they use. This would indicate a large amount of binder, but the way this paint works totally contradicts that assumption, so I really don't know why. As I said, this is not a problem for most applications since it is not used in such high concentrations. However, this is a random problem with paints where all of the pigment is pushed to the edges. Pros: - High quality travel palette with room for a brush. - Comes with a pretty decent #6 round brush - Excellent pigmentation - Gorgeous wet-on-wet flow - Re-wet with little effort - Can buy replacement tubes if they run out! Test tubes cost about $5 but are on sale for $3. The pans come with a code for you! They have the color number printed on it so you don't have to write each one individually! - 15 individual pigment colors - No mixes with more than 2 pigments - Excellent learning and mixing kit with no muddy colors - Excellent lightfastness ratings - Almost the entire kit is clear! If I'm picky, 8 of them are slightly opaque when actually minimal - Not chalky at all - Glazes and lightens well Cons: - 21 two-pigment shades (pros for those who like easy blends!) - Pigment build-up can left behind A glossy look finished work, just like too much colored pencil would look. I'm trying to think of more cons, but I really can't. I would highly recommend this set even for beginners.
