This thing has saved valuable teeth on my chain a few times now and even comes with a spare in case you break the guard entirely. Notes: You don't have to remove the whole chain, crank and all to install it, at least I didn't. I have a Santa Cruz Bronson and it has four bolts or so so the setup wasn't too bad and I don't know anything about being a bike mechanic - it mounts on a little track so you move it back and forth as needed how far you want it to protrude from under your chainring. Mine is only a few inches away so keep that in mind when installing it.
