I have worked with mahogany for many years and have only recently started using wood grain putty, it makes a world of difference when I finish a project. I usually just use boiled linseed oil for finishing and this prepares the surface nicely to take a simple coat of oil. Rubbing makes it much smoother. Very easy to use. You can smudge it with your fingers or press into the grain with a plastic scraper. Then grind it into a pile, blot it up and use it again. Only negative is this thing stinks, only use in a well ventilated work area.
