box, did not work (which I expected). The marks you use to align the dowel line were 1/8 inch off center. So if you use this indicator and straighten your boards, your marks will be 1/8 inch off center. So I disassembled it and used the Incra ruler to re-cut all the lines and crossed out the existing marks. Fixing that was fine, but I can't fix the cause of the star. The middle part is not parallel to the faces. There is too much dirt in the holes that the silver pins go through, so the entire midsection is off by about 1/16 inch. Your boards will never align properly when they are that far apart. Do not buy this product, it will end up in the trash. You'd better make your own dowel clip that connects to the top surface.
