Revainrating 4 out of 5

Buy a different tube & this works great!

The tube this originally came with is cheap & it is why I gave this product a rating of 4 vs. 5. The original tube got a hole in it the first few times we used it. They kindly sent us a replacement (of the entire product). The replacement also got a hole. This was frustrating because I didn't know if it was because the original ribbed tube was thin and cheap or if we were placing the urinal incorrectly as my family member would still wake up soaking wet in the morning. I almost gave up on it, but then realized we could go to the hardware store & buy a different solid/thick tube. It was a bit tricky to get the new thick clear tube on that I purchased (but not hard as I had to fold one end of the tube to get it inside the pre-fixed hole on one end. But once we got it in it was secure and stays in). I suggest you go to the hardware store with the original tube to buy one the same diameter & have them cut the new better tube a bit longer than the original. Now that we have the new tube in my family member wakes up completely dry & we are saving time (doing laundry & cleaning our family member), money (on laundry) and the headaches from no longer having soaked sheets, pj's etc. Here is my advice: This is a great product if you are sick of your loved one being wet in the morning from incontinence.1. get a different thicker clear tube from the hardware store and replace the tube it comes with Note: you may have to make one hole slighter on the urinal bigger or fold one end of the tube onto itself to fit it through the diameter of the existing urinal hole. Make sure this tube is NOT smaller in diameter than the pre-fixed holes or the tube will fall out. And have it cut a bit longer than the original length because the thicker tube isn't as flexible and you will need the length to make it to the base on the ground properly.2. cover the outside of the holder that goes on the privates with a old washcloth (it's hard plastic so this makes it more comfortable & less likely to leave a mark on the thighs)3. make sure the holder that goes onto the private area is slightly tilted down at the tube end to direct urine flow away from the body into the tube4. we put our loved one in a larger tabbed diaper - no pj pants - & have the back of the diaper slightly lower than the front for bedtime so that you can pull the front over the "holder" to help keep it in place at night. We pull the diaper tabs tight on each side to help keep it in place. This can be tricky but you will get used to it.5. I also add a thinner shower towel and tuck it under each side our loved one sort of like a "toga" so that our loved one won't accidently touch or move the urinal/diaper. Then, I pull the oversized PJ t-shirt down over the "toga" so there is even less change of hands moving it.6. If in a hospital bed tuck the tube on the side of the bed between the bars and the mattress to help keep it in place. This is not necessary, but is nice in case there is slight movement at night.7. we place the base of the urinal on top of disposable chucks so that the tube is stretched out for the urine to flow in a downward motion into the base.8. we add a velcro ankle weight (2-5 lb is fine) to hold the base onto the ground. We simply stretch the weigh out lengthwise into the handle. I think this is important. The tube I bought is rigid so the base could easily tip over without this weight. It has not spilled once with the weight tucked into the handle so that it drapes on both sides of the base.9. We only use this urinal at night for bed (& clean it every morning & let it air dry).If your loved one is not fidgety or restless in the night I would suggest this product ONLY if you get a new after market thicker tube, use a diaper/towel to hold it firmly in place on the person & place a weight on the base to accommodate for the new rigid tube that might flip the base over with slight body movement. This may seem like a lot, but it's not. This is easy & has saved me from lots of extra work in the morning. I will not stop using this now that I got a new improved tube.
