Bypass valve failure

I usually like all Mobil 1 products. Recently changed oil and filter (5000 km). When I took out the filter I noticed that the filter was empty (you could see it was clean inside). After much reading and checking with a mechanic, the likely problem is a defective bypass valve on the filter. Net, if you buy a "premium" filter for 20,000 miles, don't expect such a rejection. I know perfection isn't always possible, but in this case I was lucky. I hope that there will be no long-term consequences from this.
