studied the difference between DVD-R/W and DVD+R/W and was satisfied Note that this burner supports both formats as well as all CD-R/W formats. At first I had problems with some JVC DVD-R media, but it turned out to be the discs and not the unit. Since that fiasco I've used various mediums from brand name to cheap no name brands and I have yet to make 'stands' with this machine. Everything runs very well on ALL of my standalone DVD players in my house. It comes with NERO with an additional DVD plug-in (which usually has to be purchased separately) and Cyberlink's PowerDVD, two extremely powerful programs. This unit also supports DVD9 so I'm looking forward to getting some of these once the prices drop. I have just one small remark. This recorder supports firmware updates, but there is no documentation directing you to this information. I'm the kind of person who usually surfs websites looking for the hardware I'm buying, so I checked the Liteon website and found out myself that there was a firmware update. But this is such a small complaint that it will hardly dampen my enjoyment of using this DVD burner. Again, the ability to read and write multiple formats and the included software make this DVD burner an INCREDIBLE deal. As an added bonus, it comes with two bezels (front covers) in either white or black so the device doesn't completely interfere with your computer.
