Poke a hole in the cap of the bottle if you haven't already, put a straw in the hole and you're done. The dispenser stays in place until you remove it. We've been using it for about a week, maybe two, and we haven't charged it since the first charge. I don't know how long the battery should last, but I have no complaints about the battery life. I don't really like that it just stays on top of the bottle so I leave the bottle cap on when installing the device and it's easy to remove too. If it's confusing, I've uploaded a video showing how to install it. Imma buy another one.
