great hack! Best Water Heaters, Parts & Accessories

Installed in/on an old 1977 Unitrol/Robertshaw 6 gallon water heater that eventually gave out (propane light no longer lit). I wish I had known about this hack years ago! We live in our old 1977 little comfort trailer all the time at the park/campervan (life is rough for a lot of people right now, that's sad!). The power is on and not metered, so this hack is a no-brainer! The element rod is screwed directly into the drain plug without an adapter. In order to install/make room for the thermos I had to cut/peel off part of the tin tank body which was the hardest and most annoying part. Haven't fixed it yet lol. The temperature control is very sensitive and is set at 120°F - anything above that becomes scalding! Seems like a decent 10 minute shower is easily doable but we haven't tried it yet as we also have all the amenities nearby on site. Great for everyday hot water needs, dishes, etc. It can take an hour for the tank to fully heat up if it's too cold, but we rarely need it. He's also completely silent, not even knowing he's there. From time to time I hear the thermals go off or on, that's all! A huge improvement over the tricky, unreliable, dangerous, complex, annoyingly loud roar of a propane gas plant! Here's what I'm gonna tell you. You don't realize how luxurious hot water on demand is until wintertime when you need to wash dishes and wash your face with 36F warm water, lol! brrr! 😰 Now I hardly have to lug one of our big, heavy propane tanks down and uphill with the e-bike trailer because we hardly use propane! For stove and emergency/disabled backup heater only. I *strongly* recommend this setup. If like us you live in a park/lot with free/cheap electricity all the time, you need to do this hack!
